Install GFI Webmonitor

GFI Webmonitor is a nice proxy tool , to use to control your internet usage and analyze it too. It is a simple one to use.

Installing GFI Webmonitor is really simple. You don’t have to be a security engineer to install it.

This is a step by step installation

 

. Welcome screen

 

. You may check for a newer version

. Accept the license agreement

. Enter ip addresses for the computers accessing internet through Webmonitor [the ips shown are for my wifi and a virtual lan card, besides the localhost]

 

. Enter the username and password for the admin account on your machine

. Enter the mail server settings so that you can receive email reports from Webmonitor

 

. Choose the installation folder

 

. Install Microsoft Message Queuing Service if it is not installed on your machine

. Start the installation by clicking the install button

 

. Congratulations !! Now installation is complete

. Based on your firewall settings, you may have to allow Webmonitor

Custom Resolution on NVidia cards…

I tried to connect a new Samsung monitor to my laptop, but the image was really bad of course. Using 1024 * 786 for a 22’’ monitor is silly.

 

When I tried to check the resolutions available, I always get an error message that the mode is not supported. And the device manager always detects the monitor as a Generic non plug and play monitor..

The ideal resolution for the monitor is 1366 * 786 @ 60 Hz…

 

I tried to create custom resolution at NVIDIA control panel.

Click customize , then custom resolution

 

 

Now the new required resolution is available in the resolutions list

Migrating to WordPress !!

Dear All..

This is my first post on WordPress.. Using Windows Live Writer ( as usual !!).

Microsoft will shutdown the spaces service on March 2011. The migration tool they provide to migrate from Spaces to WordPress is really simple. Just create your WordPress account, and it is only a button click.

 

The process all took about 2 or 3 minutes and everything was ready. Even, the url for my old blog ( http://TamerMaher.spaces.live.com) now maps to my new one automatically ( http://TamerMaher.wordpress.com). That’s really cool, as it will save me some time till everybody knows the new address.

 

What wasn’t migrated:-

. ALL the HTML modules I had , for the title and legal disclaimer on my old blog

. All my left side links:

                 . My about and photo.

                  . Amazon Support me wish list

                 . Linked in link

                 . Facebook link

                 . Tecnorati Link

                 . My Youtube link

                 . Visitor Locataions Gadget

.   And of course My Colour theme.

. And on the right, a list of my favorite blogs..

So, untill  I do some new modifications, to add that stuff back , it is enough for you to know it existed !!!

Poetry

I ‘ve been working on laptops for long. Then yesterday I had to work on a desktop to do some stuff.

I ‘ve forgot how those big keyboards feel like.

 

That really inspired me to write those few lines . I tried to keep the Rhyme Scheme

 

“

Sooo long, that I forgot how they feel

the keyboard .. keystrokes so deep

Make me feel.. like a geek ”

I ‘ve been busy for the last few months.

Back to blogging now with a series on Product Management.

 

I want to make software management look simple. Some people always avoid high level designs and management tasks. If you have the right passion / vision then you are the right candidate. Otherwise, let somebody else do the stuff ….

Imagine Cup 2009 What’s New ?

Well..

 

I ‘m an old Imagine Cup competitor. Really wish to reach the world finals this year 🙂

 

I ‘m in the IT Challenge. So, that’s what I ‘m gonna comment on.

 

I ‘ve noticed three main changes:

. The system is slightly changed. There are 8 quizzes for round 1 with 4 different themes.

. Round 2 has changed too.

. I ‘ve just finished my Quiz 1B. I ‘v noticed that you have 60 minutes the moment you start the quiz. And not 60 minutes from the main start time like the previous times, especially when you have a 5 or 10 minutes delay due to the high traffic on the servers. 

 

. The thing i liked most was that , the regulations for imagine cup have changed. You can still compete if you have graduated recently.

. Also, there are new challenges like the MashUp.

. There is a big improvement on making the preparation plan. This will help people who aren’t that good in making a study plan for themselves by giving links for suitable online clinics.
